The International High School of ISA Liwan offers a wide range of curriculum options for students from grade 9 to 12. Under the framework of IB, the high school encourages and respects the differences of students, and provides the most suitable education programme for each individual.

Built upon the IB framework, students of G9-G10 will study the IGCSE integration programme, enabling improvements in the subject foundation, learning skills and getting to know a wide range of subjects. It is to help students to find out their interests and passions and set up the preparation for G11 and G12.

Grades 11-12 offer different courses such as IBDP, A Level, Art and HKDSE for students to choose from, and AP elective courses for students who have spare time to learn more. Each student can find a suitable curriculum to lead to a world-famous university.

ISA Liwan IB Diploma Programme

IBDP is a programme designed by IBO for students at age 16-19 years old. It is one of the most influential international courses at present, drawing on the advantages of curriculum systems from different countries. The structure is comprehensive and balanced, and the quality evaluation is strict and standardised, which is conducive to the cultivation of students’ comprehensive quality and exploration and innovation abilities.

So far, over 5,400 schools have been established in over 140 countries. Students from early years to G12 can find suitable programmes for them. IB Curriculum has provided education to improve students’ intelligence, emotion, personal development and social skills, which eventually prepare them for future study and work life.

On December 2023, ISA Liwan has successfully achieved International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) authorization. The school code for ISA Liwan is 062751.

ISA Liwan A Level Programme

Highly developed, recognised and specialized international qualification

A Level (Advanced Level Programme) is a highly developed and standardized curriculum system. The standards and content of high school are supervised by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual). U.K. Most universities and Higher Education institutes recognize A Levels as a suitable entry qualification which has the same impact on students as Gaokao to Chinese students. There are official textbooks for A Level teaching, and the detailed syllabus and resources are also a great support the quality. Students can choose 3-5 subjects for their examination based on interests and advantages, which can save them more time for preparation.

A Level examination result now has been acknowledged by universities in some popular overseas study destinations for Chinese such as the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore and 110 regions and countries. Also, students with excellent A Level results can apply for scholarships and awards from universities. Therefore, A Level has been regarded as the gold standard of high school academic achievements and an entry ticket to the top universities around the world.

The Curriculum

ISALW A Level provides a General Certificate of Education Advanced level Curiculum. Students who have completed IGCSE courses can enjoy a seamless transition to A Level programme when they continue their high school study in ISA Liwan. In lSALW A Level, students can choose 3 to 4 A Level subjects and one EPQ/IPQ as the examination subjects while practising language skills for IELTS. The subjects for A Level are: Mathematics, Advanced Mathematics. At and Design, Biology Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science and Economics.

The ISA Liwan International School Visual Arts High School Program (G9-G12) adopts a small-class teaching model to comprehensively enhance students' artistic creativity, critical thinking skills, and hands-on abilities, seamlessly preparing them for admission to art colleges and universities in countries like the UK and the US.

HKDSE

The Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE), commonly known as the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKDSE), is organized by the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA), and is widely recognized as an internationally recognized academic qualification. Hong Kong applicants can apply for admission to 138 universities in Mainland China, including 985, 211 and Double First Class Universities, through the Mainland's “Examination Waiver Scheme” with HKDSE results. Students who have resided in Hong Kong for 7 years and are holders of a Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents can gain direct access to more than 600 overseas universities in the UK, US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Germany, in addition to the HK8 universities.

HKDSE Subjects

The HKDSE comprises three categories of subjects:

  • CATEGORY A: 19 Senior Secondary subjects, Core subjects: Chinese language, English Language, Mathematics and Citizenship and Social Development, Elective subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, M1/M2, History, Economy, etc.
  • CATEGORY B: Applied Learning subjects
  • CATEGORY C: Other Languages subjects, such as French, German, Japanese, etc.

Over 600 institutions of higher learning around the world welcome students with HKDSE results to apply for admission, including universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Japan, and many other countries.

02 The only international examination that allows you to answer questions in Chinese

The HKDSE is the only international program in the world that allows the use of Chinese (including simplified characters and Mandarin) or English as the language of study and examination.

03 Higher admission rate to top schools

According to the 2022 admission statistics, the percentage of students entering the top 100 univ throughly percentage of students entering the top 100 universities in the world through the Mainland's Advanced Level Examination (A-Level) is only 0.16%, which is a huge difference in the acceptance rate of the world's most prestigious universities.

04 Examinations without limiting age, school registration, and nationality

The HKDSE program mainly assesses students' analytical skills and problem-solving abilities. Hong Kong students can enjoy national policy preferences and can apply for admission to 985 and 211 engineering schools in China.

05 High compatibility with the domestic P.G.C. curriculum

Except for the English language subjects, other HKDSE subjects (Chinese Language, Mathematics, Civic and Social Development, Physics, etc.) are highly compatible with the domestic PUC curriculum, which makes it easy for students to get started and easier for them to cross the university threshold.

06 Examination results can be retained for two years

If the first year's results are unsatisfactory, students can retake individual subjects or all subjects in the second year, and take the best results of the two years and combine them as the final application results.

Electives for students who are willing to learn more

The AP Program offers college-level courses and exams that you can take in high school. ISA Liwan has officially received authorization from the College Board to offer AP (Advanced Placement) courses (CEEB Code: 428848). Taking AP courses and exams in high school could give students an advantage in college by letting students:

  • Earn College Credit and Placement: AP score could earn college credits before even set foot on campus.
  • Stand Out to Colleges: “AP” on high school transcript shows colleges students are motivated to succeed, and taking the exam demonstrates students’ commitment to tackle and complete college-level work.
  • Save Money and Time : Earning credit or placement can open up time on schedule or even let students graduate early.
  • Keep Options Open: Earning college credit with AP can give students the flexibility to change majors, pursue a second degree, study abroad, or seek internships.
